The Incident Guard in 45 Minutes – A Micro-Course for Tourism Operators
Tourism is one of Iceland’s largest industries and a cornerstone of the national economy. Around 4,000 companies and nearly 35,000 employees welcome close to three million visitors each year. To ensure continued success, it is essential that guest safety and visitor experience remain top priorities. While the industry has achieved strong results, there are still opportunities for improvement.
Serious incidents that may have significant impacts on individuals and communities occur from time to time. In addition, there are many smaller incidents that often go unreported—so-called near misses, which could easily have resulted in more serious consequences. All of these events matter, as most accidents have warning signs and contributing factors.
To help strengthen safety across the industry, the Icelandic Tourist Board introduces The Incident Guard, a free service available to all tourism operators. Its purpose is to provide a simple, standardized, and practical system for recording accidents, incidents, and near misses.
The goal is to enhance prevention efforts within the tourism sector by collecting information on accidents, incidents, and near misses. This enables risks to be identified earlier and corrective actions to be taken before they lead to serious consequences.
This short and concise course introduces tourism operators to The Incident Guard and guides them through the first steps of using the system.
