Hiking trails in Iceland

The main objective of the Icelandic Tourist Board’s hiking trail registration project is to establish a centralized registration system for hiking trails throughout Iceland. The purpose is to provide consistent and reliable information about hiking trails in Iceland and to encourage travel, outdoor recreation, and nature exploration in a responsible and safe manner. The project is intended to help travelers choose suitable routes that match their abilities and preferences, ensuring the safest and most enjoyable experience possible.

The project is designed as a collaborative effort with Destination Management and Marketing Offices (DMMO) in each region of Iceland and the municipalities. Those who are granted access to register hiking trails in the database have been appointed to the project by these organizations.

Interested parties can contact the DMMO in their region or the Icelandic Tourist Board at gonguleidir@ferdamalastofa.is .

Trails are collected in a database maintained by the Icelandic Tourist Board.
