Self-guided travelers

On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will be visible from Iceland. The path of totality will cross the Westfjords, West Iceland, the Capital Region, and the Reykjanes Peninsula. The event is expected to result in a temporary increase in visitor numbers within these areas and increased traffic. Infrastructure may come under significant pressure, as heavy traffic can develop suddenly and people’s behavior can be unpredictable.

Arrive early, stay longer, and come prepared.
