Sky Lagoon Earns Gold Certification in Vakinn Environmental Category

Sky Lagoon, which has held Vakinn certification since February 2024, recently achieved the impressive milestone of receiving the Gold label in the environmental category. From the outset, the company has placed strong emphasis on sustainability, environmentalprotection, and a closeconnectionto Icelandic nature.

A Long-Term Commitment to Sustainability

“Drawing the foundations of the company from Icelandic nature would ring hollow if it were not accompanied by a responsible and purposeful sustainability policy. Sustainability is a journey that never truly ends and requires continuous review, measurement, and the willingness to keep improving. At Sky Lagoon, we have from the very beginning focused on integrating sustainability into daily operations — from clear procurement criteria and a code of conduct for suppliers to targeted staff education and improved waste sorting in the workplace,” says Ásrún Ísleifsdóttir, Quality, Environment and Safety Manager.

“Through green accounting and carbon footprint calculations, we have gained a clear picture of our environmental impact and seen tangible results. In 2025, we achieved our lowest carbon footprint to date, along with a historically high waste-sorting rate, marking an important milestone we are very proud of. Vakinn’s Gold certification confirms this work, but above all it serves as an encouragement to continue moving forward with full responsibility towards nature, society, and future generations,” Ásrún adds.
