A running route circling Helgafell in Hafnarfjörður, a striking tuff stack rising 338 metres above sea level, though the route does not ascend the mountain itself. The run starts at the parking area by Helgafell and follows a well-marked path around the mountain. The trail continues along the eastern and southern sides of Helgafell until it rejoins the starting path. The surface is varied lava terrain — gravel flats, rock outcrops and pahoehoe lava — and the route is fairly runnable with little elevation gain, around 70–90 metres. Along the way there are good views of Helgafell and the surrounding lava field. The route is an 8.3 km loop and suits most people in reasonable condition. The area is a water-protection zone and should be treated with care. Parking is available at the start.
