The run follows a well-defined path, fairly runnable at the bottom but steeper higher up, with around 250 metres of climb. At the top of Stórihnúkur there are magnificent views in all directions over the greater Reykjavík area, Mt. Esja, Mosfellsdalur and the mountains. The route is a loop of about 4.3 km and the surface is mixed: soil, gravel and rock. The descent is well suited for practising downhill trail running.
