Start your hike at Steindyr farmstead and ascend a lush slope alongside a stream to reach a scenic waterfall, with all trail segments clearly marked. After reaching a hill overlooking the waterfall, turn north and walk beneath the surrounding mountains until you arrive at Lake Nykurtjörn.
For the return journey, you can retrace your steps along the same trail or take a more direct route through the valley toward Húsabakki, the campsite from which you can explore the Svarfaðardalur Nature Reserve. Along the way, you'll discover a small natural hot spring with warm, crystal-clear water—an ideal spot — an ideal spot to relax and dip your feet.
