Bridge maintenance at Jökulsá á Fjöllum – Route 1 near Grímsstaðir
Starting yesterday, and continuing for the next week or two, maintenance work will be carried out on the bridge over Jökulsá á Fjöllum by Grímsstaðir. The bridge is on the ring road (Route 1) in the northeast of Iceland - sem map below. While the work is ongoing, the bridge will mostly be closed, but traffic will be allowed to pass at set times, four times a day.
We encourage travel service providers to inform their customers about these conditions.
Open 4 times a day
Work will take place on weekdays from 8:00 in the morning until 19:00 in the evening. The bridge will be open to traffic during the following times each day:
- 09:45 – 10:15
- 12:00 – 13:00
- 14:45 – 15:15
- 16:45 – 17:15
Open at night and on weekends
The bridge will also remain open during weekends, and on weekdays from 19:00 in the evening until 08:00 the next morning.
More information
- Closures should not have a major impact on emergency transport, as the bridge can be opened at short notice if needed.
- Information signs with instructions and directions will be placed by the bridge.
- The Icelandic Road Administration asks travelers to be patient, follow the signs, and respect instructions at the site.
