The walking trail begins at the coastal path in Hafnarfjörður, offering views over the harbour. Along the seafront, one can enjoy the natural surroundings and the lively atmosphere by the sea before the route turns up toward Hellisgerði – an enchanting park filled with lava formations, moss-covered nature, and beautiful walking paths that resemble a fairytale world.
From Hellisgerði, the trail continues through the old town with its colorful timber houses. Walkers pass by the Hafnarfjörður Museum, which offers insight into daily life in earlier times, the Fríkirkja Church, and Hafnarfjörður Church. The trail also leads through the town center, where you’ll find charming shops and cozy cafés. Along the walking trail, there are also several decorated hearts where it's perfect to stop for a moment.
For those who wish to extend their walk, it is possible to take a detour to Víðistaðatún, a delightful outdoor recreation area for people of all ages. You can also walk the loop around the stream (Lækurinn) to the old power station or head up to Hamarinn for a panoramic view over Faxaflói Bay.
