The Blue Lagoon now has all its operations certified by Vakinn the official quality and environmental certification for Icelandic tourism. The latest certification is the Silica Hotel with 4 star superior star rating and Moss restaurant which is now quality certified.

Safetravel.is, the official source for safe travel in Iceland, has introduced a new map of travel conditions which combines what used to be three maps in one, mbl.is reports. Minister of Tourism Þórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir formally launched the map yesterday.

Departures of foreign passengers from Iceland via Keflavik airport were about 163 thousand in October, according to figures from the Icelandic Tourist Board, or about 36 thousand less than in October 2018. The decrease between years is 18.4%.

The names of the first five star hotels in Iceland were announced last week. These are The Retreat Hotel - Blue Lagoon, a five Star Superior Hotel, and Hótel Grímsborgir, a five Star Hotel. This is a major, positive milestone for tourism in Iceland, since quality has been an important emphasis in recent years, both in government policies and the tourism sector in general.

Vatnajökull National Park has been inscribed on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. The decision, which was taken at a meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Baku, Azerbaijan last Friday, confirms that the natural environment of the Park and the Nature Reserve at Lónsöræfi have a unique value to humankind.
