Iceland World’s Most Peaceful Country

Out of 162 countries, Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world. This is according to a new survey by the Global Peace Index. 

Small and stable democratic states fill the list’s top spots, rúv.is reports. Denmark and New Zealand come in second and third. Finland ranks number seven, Sweden number nine and Norway is in eleventh place while Great Britain is in 44th place. Europe is the most peaceful continent. Turkey, however, is the only European country so far down the list, coming in at 134th place.

According to the report, the world is now five per cent less peaceful then in 2008. The least peaceful countries are Afghanistan, Somalia and Syria. In Chad, Georgia and Haiti, the situation has significantly improved in the last six years.
