This beautiful 3 km walking route begins at the parking lot by the Vesturbær Swimming Pool. From there, the walk continues down Hofsvallagata, leading towards Ægisíða. When you reach Ægisíða, an open grassy area appears, where you’ll find an outdoor sculpture by Ásmundur Sveinsson titled Rescue from Sea Peril. It’s an ideal spot to pause and enjoy the view.
The path along Ægisíða is accessible, with wide walkways suitable for walkers, as well as those with strollers or bikes. The surroundings are peaceful and lush, featuring a variety of birdlife and small baiting sheds that serve as reminders of earlier times when coastal fishing was part of daily life. The view over Faxaflói Bay is truly stunning, with Bessastaðir on Álftanes clearly visible in the distance. Along the way, numerous benches invite walkers to sit down and take in the scenery.
When you reach Skerjafjörður, you return the same way, walking back up Hofsvallagata to the swimming pool. There, walkers can finish their stroll with a cup of coffee—or even a refreshing swim in the Vesturbær Pool.
