Bæjarfjall Hiking trail
Starting from the church of Dalvik, where the hike begins. The trail starts out as a gravel road that leads up the mountain, alongside a beautiful gorge, and further into the valley of Tungudalur. Then, the path goes up the mountain to the cairn that stands there. The view from this point is spectacular, overlooking Dalvik, Svarfaðardalur, Skíðadalur, out to Hrísey, and even the distant Grímsey. The hike is relatively short but includes some steep sections. The same path is used to return.

Drive to church of Dalvík, where the journey begins. On foot, continue up a gravel road that leads to the mountains. Where the road branches, you turn right. You cross a bridge over a small river and walk up along the beautiful gorge that is there. The path continues along a track up to a fence. After passing through a gate, the trail continues north, marked by trail markers that guide you into the entrance of Tungudalur. The path gets steeper as you ascend, climbing directly up the hillside before following a gravel ridge. As you reach the elevation of 774 meters, you'll find a cairn marking the top. From the summit, there's a spectacular panoramic view encompassing Dalvík, and further into the valleys of Svarfaðardalur and Skíðadalur. The view extends across the sea, capturing the islands of Hrísey and even the distant Grímsey.
