Uppsalahnjúkur (940 m) is a prominent peak on Staðarbyggðarfjall, renowned for its great views of the fjord and surrounding mountains. The most practical starting point is to drive to Öngulsstaðir, where a jeep trail leads into a small forested area. There, visitors can park their vehicles and find signage providing detailed information about the trail.

The route begins by passing through a gate and proceeding through a wooded section until reaching a second gate situated above the forest. From this point, hikers should turn to the right and then follow the trail southward up the hill. The trail is well-marked and leads to the viewpoint at Haus, which serves as the first significant waypoint on the ascent of Staðarbyggðarfjall. This part of the hike is moderately challenging but accessible, and even if you go no further you still have a panoramic view of the fjord. Great choice if you are seeking a shorter, manageable trek.

From Haus, the route continues inland along the mountain through gentle slopes, heading toward the eastern flank of the peak. Hikers should exercise caution when crossing the steep hillside, especially if snow remains on the ground. The trail then ascends along the ridge of the mountain until reaching the summit, where a stunning vista unfolds of the surrounding terrain.

Total distance approximately 10 km. Elevation gain: 800 m.
