This hike begins by ascending the historic old road above the ski resort to Siglufjarðarskarð pass, which offers breathtaking views over Fljótin to one side and Siglufjörður to the other. Shortly after reaching the pass, you will diverge onto an older postal route that gently winds toward the sea and your final destination. This trail is also suitable for biking, allowing you to follow the old road all the way to the endpoint.
The road over Siglufjarðarskarð was constructed in 1946, significantly improving transportation in the area at the time. However, it was often snow-covered in winter and accessible for only a few months each year. Even today, visitors should anticipate snow in the early summer. Just north of the pass lies Illviðrishnjúkur (895 m), the second-highest peak near Siglufjörður.
Total distance approximately 10 km (one way).
