This varied and enjoyable route is ideal for visitors to Kópasker. The walk starts at the town campsite and follows the main road towards the creek of Snartarstaðir. The old farm houses a charming local heritage museum displaying a wide range of cultural and historical artefacts, with particular emphasis on handicrafts and the beauty of everyday objects. It makes a convenient stop to learn about the area's history. The route then loops out to the Kópaskersmisgengi, geological formations formed along tectonic plate boundaries. The area lies on an active volcanic zone; and although there have been no lowland eruptions in modern times, volcanic influences are still visible and contribute to a diverse landscape. Birdlife is also notable: ponds and wetlands along the route support numerous breeding species.
Total distance approximately 5 km.
