The Icelandic Tourist Board has published a new visitor survey. The respondents are foreign tourists in Iceland in the months of June 2016 through August 2016 and the survey is about their experience in Iceland during the summer months.

The Reykjavík Tourist Information Centre was opened in the City Hall today, Monday 16 January. The Information Centre has been operating at nearby Aðalstræti 2 since 2002. Visit Reykjavík runs the Tourist Information Centre with funding from the City of Reykjavík, a grant provided by the Icelandic Tourist Board and now also in collaboration with the company Guide to Iceland. The Information Centre, which has an average of nine staff, is open every day of the year (except Christmas Day) 8.00 to 20.00.

The number of foreign visitors travelling to Iceland who passed through Keflavík Airport was approximately 1.77m in 2016, or 40% more than in 2015. One may assume that the number covers more than 98% of visitors coming to Iceland. Those who came through other airports and the passengers of the ferry Norræna are not included in this number. The passengers of cruise liners are defined as day trippers and are not, therefore, included in this number.

There are various things to keep in mind if you are planning to camp or spend the night outside organised campsites. In November 2015, new conservation legislation came into effect making changes to where it is permissible to camp. For instance, it is now illegal to spend the night in tent trailers, tent campers, caravans, camper vans or similar outside organised campsites or urban areas unless the land owner or rightholder has given their permission.

Gray Line Airport Express will be commencing a direct service between Akureyri in North Iceland and Keflavik International Airport on April 17th which means tourists travelling to Iceland could begin their trip by journeying to the north.
