The current procedure of double screening for covid-19 at the border for all passengers arriving in Iceland is planned to remain in place until 1 December, unless circumstances warrant earlier easing. Departures of foreign passengers from Iceland via Keflavik airport were about 64 thousand in August, according to figures from the Icelandic Tourist Board, or less than 74.7 percent compared to the numbers in August 2019, when departures were 252 thousand.

Today, the Icelandic Tourist Board published a report on the residents’ attitudes of tourism in Iceland. The aim of the survey was to assess the attitudes of Icelanders to tourism and tourists at a specific time, both nationally and by individual regions. In addition, evidence was sought as to whether Icelanders feel pressure from tourism in their community.

New regulations state that visitors coming to Iceland from the 19th of august must quarantine for 5-6 days until getting their second test results back. There are many places where these guests are able to stay during their time in quarantine.

As of August 19, 2020, all travellers to Iceland that enter the country are again obligated to go into quarantine, regardless of duration of the intended stay in Iceland or purpose of the visit. The Directorate of Health has compiled instructions in English, which would be advisable for tourism companies get acquainted with and also send them to all guests who are expected to come to Iceland in the coming days. These guidelines are being translated into more languages and will be posted on the Icelandic Tourist Board's website as soon as they are ready.

The Government of Iceland has decided to impose more comprehensive border-screening measures as of 19 August. All arriving passengers must then choose between a 14-day quarantine and a double testing procedure along with a quarantine for 4-5 days.
