Yesterday gasses were measured near the volcanic cones and craters at Eldvörp on the Reykjanes peninsula. Gas levels are now monitored and weekly measurements are carried out as a part of the contingency plan implemented in response to unrest and uplift of ground around the MT. Thorbjörn.

Departures of foreign passengers from Iceland via Keflavik airport were about 121 thousand in January, according to figures from the Icelandic Tourist Board, or about 18 thousand less than in January 2019. The decrease between years is 13%. This is the second year in a row that fewer passengers depart in January, compared to previous year.

The Icelandic Tourist Board has sent out an announcement from The Directorate of Health, Chief Epidemiologist, regarding the spread of the new coronavirus. Hotels, guesthouses and other accommodations, as well as tour operators, are encouraged to print out the information and have it visible in their reception. The announcement is in Icelandic, English and Chinese.
