New legislation in the field of tourism

On June 12th this year, the Icelandic Parliament passed two new acts of law in the field of tourism; Act No. 96/2018 on the Icelandic Tourist Board and Act No. 95/2018 on package travel and linked travel arrangements. Both acts of law will enter into force on January 1st 2019. The most extensive changes in legislation are in matters/issues pertaining to improved consumer rights and safety.

2,2 million foreign passengers 2017

Departures of foreign passengers from Iceland through Keflavík International Airport were 2,195,271 in the year 2017. This is 427,545 more than 2016 or an increase of 24.2%, according to figures from the Icelandic Tourist Board and Isavia.
