To reach the summit of Vindbelgur, begin at the parking lot and follow an old road for approximately 25 minutes to the base of the mountain. From there, a marked path ascends to the top. While the trail can be steep and slippery in some sections, it poses no technical challenges. At the summit, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of Lake Mývatn, pseudo craters, wetlands, and the surrounding landscape.
Vindbelgur is a palagonite mound formed during a subglacial eruption, making it a unique geological feature in the area.
The mountain lies within the Protected Area of Mývatn and Laxá, a region internationally recognized for its significance as a wetland and bird protection area.
